The Association of Shelter Medicine Veterinary Technicians
Becoming a VTS
While we wanted to be established as an association in order to better the field of shelter medicine, our main goal is to be formally recognized under an academy in order to become a veterinary technician/nurse specialty. We are in the beginning stages of this process (and your support of this website helps!), but eventually we will:

-
Form an organizing committee (exemplary or exceptionally qualified members in the field)
-
Submit a letter of intent to the CVTS (Committee on Veterinary Technician Specialties)
-
Petition the CVTS with credentialing standards (case work, skill lists, writing the exam, etc.)
-
Be accepted under an existing veterinary academy or prove that a need exists to form a new one
-
Graduate from provisional recognition within a 10 year period (during which VTS status may be earned)
